Labour Relations
Libya has a workforce of approximately one million, of which:
- 31% work in the industry;
- 27% are involved in provision of services;
- 24% are employed at government entities;
- 18% in the agricultural sector.
Working Conditions and Labour Relations in Libya
Working conditions are defined in Labor Law No. 12/2010.
Work Permits and Labour Relations
- Foreigners who work in Libya are required to have a work permit which must be applied in advance by the prospective employer.
- Permission is normally granted to those having the skills and qualifications that are required in Libya and are not specifically prohibited by the Labor Office.
- The approval for a work permit is given usually between 10-15 days after the application is received.
